Look closely at our shield. Not one element is there by accident. Each carries its own history, meaning, and purpose. Together, they tell a story that no single element could tell alone.
We believe the same is true of people.
SMS was founded by veterans, and our military heritage is woven into every detail of our identity. But the shield was never intended to represent military service alone. It also represents the proud families that stood beside them, their caregivers, and community members whose experiences and contributions are no less significant.
Here We Are....
We come from different backgrounds. We carry different burdens. And we don't all arrive at the same place by taking the same road. What matters isn't how someone got here, but what we can build together once they do.
Our shield tells the story of where we came from. The people behind it will determine what it becomes.

Most systems intervene at the extremes, either before problems appear or once a crisis has already occurred. SMS operates in the space most often overlooked: the unstable middle where recovery can either strengthen or unravel.
Our programs are designed to reduce friction, remove barriers, and maintain continuity across stabilization and long-term rebuilding. Individuals engage at different points depending on their needs, circumstances, and readiness. There is no single path and no required starting point.
Engagement is intentionally low-stakes. Participants can step away and return without shame, penalties, or restart requirements. Recovery is not linear, and our model reflects that reality.
Who We Serve
We serve those at different stages of transition, stability, and long-term recovery, and the people who support them.
SMS serves individuals navigating separation from military service, individuals experiencing periods of instability, and the long process of rebuilding a meaningful life. Some engage early during transition. Others connect during moments of instability. Many remain involved as they pursue long-term recovery and reintegration.
We also recognize the role of families, caregivers, and support networks. Recovery and reintegration do not occur in isolation, and our work reflects the broader environments veterans return to and rebuild within.

We do not define success by single interventions or short-term outcomes. Our focus is sustained stability, meaningful recovery, and environments that support long-term growth.
