C.O.M.P.A.S.S. is Second Mission Shield’s purpose-orientation program. It helps veterans reconnect with meaning, rediscover direction, strengthen accountability, and begin rebuilding identity through community engagement and opportunities to serve.
After military service, many veterans face a loss of structure and mission. The uniform may be gone, but the desire to contribute, lead, and protect does not disappear. Without a clear direction, that sense of purpose can become difficult to translate into civilian life.
C.O.M.P.A.S.S. helps veterans identify where their strengths, experiences, and values can continue to make an impact. Through community outreach, engagement opportunities, and structured support, the program helps participants begin moving toward meaningful roles in their communities while rebuilding consistency, accountability, and personal momentum.
The goal is not simply participation. The goal is direction, identity, accountability, and renewed purpose.
Military service provides a powerful sense of mission, structure, and belonging. When that chapter ends, many veterans find themselves asking a difficult question:
“Where do I fit now?”
The loss of mission can create disconnection, isolation, and uncertainty about the future. Skills remain strong, but the path forward is often unclear. Veterans may still carry leadership, discipline, and a desire to serve, but without a meaningful outlet, those strengths can become underused or disconnected from daily life.
Purpose is not just motivational language. Meaningful engagement, community connection, and service to others are critical factors in long-term recovery, stability, and well-being. Just as important, forward movement often requires accountability, structure, and a reason to keep showing up.
C.O.M.P.A.S.S. helps veterans bridge that gap by reconnecting them with opportunities for contribution, engagement, responsibility, and leadership. By helping veterans rediscover direction and purpose, the program strengthens the foundation for long-term recovery, reintegration, and sustained growth.
When veterans have a mission again, momentum returns.

• Introduces veterans to community initiatives, service opportunities, and engagement pathways
• Encourages reconnection with civic life and local communities
• Provides structured opportunities to participate in meaningful outreach activities

• Creates practical entry points for veterans to contribute without pressure or perfectionism
Through outreach and engagement, veterans begin to reconnect with the communities they helped protect.

• Helps veterans explore new ways to apply their leadership, discipline, and experience
• Encourages identity reconstruction beyond military service
• Reinforces the value of contribution, responsibility, and continued service
• Helps participants translate personal values into meaningful civilian roles
• Encourages routine, follow-through, and accountability as part of rebuilding purpose
C.O.M.P.A.S.S. helps veterans understand that the mission does not end with the uniform. It evolves.
C.O.M.P.A.S.S. supports veterans who are seeking direction, purpose, accountability, or meaningful engagement after military service.
Participants may feel disconnected from community, unsure about their next role, or searching for ways to apply their skills and values outside the military environment. Some may be rebuilding after instability or isolation. Others may already be on steady ground but still feel the absence of mission, structure, or contribution.
This program is for veterans who do not just want activity. They want direction. They want to reconnect with purpose, strengthen their footing, and move toward meaningful service in civilian life.
C.O.M.P.A.S.S. provides a structured starting point for rediscovering direction and reconnecting with meaningful contribution.

C.O.M.P.A.S.S. operates within the Purpose & Service stage of Second Mission Shield’s recovery continuum.
As veterans stabilize and rebuild their lives, the next step is often rediscovering purpose. Meaningful contribution strengthens identity, reinforces self-worth, and helps veterans reconnect with the communities around them. Accountability and structure help transform that renewed purpose into something sustainable.
By helping veterans identify opportunities for engagement and service, C.O.M.P.A.S.S. creates pathways toward continued leadership, community involvement, and long-term personal growth.
Purpose is not the end of the recovery journey.
It is the beginning of the next mission.
