Aaron C. Schaffer is the Founder and Executive Director of Second Mission Shield. A U.S. Navy veteran, his leadership is grounded in lived experience and professional work across federal systems, nonprofit veterans treatment initiatives, and community-based recovery settings.
He began his post-service career supporting veterans navigating housing instability and long-term stabilization. He later served in veteran peer mentorship and frontline recovery roles that included the facilitation of nightly veteran wellness groups, conducting clinical intakes, and supporting early stabilization and long-term support.
Aaron holds a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Wellness Advocacy with a minor in Psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver. His academic training included advanced trauma counseling and trauma-informed practice. He also holds peer support, addiction, and recovery-focused training and certifications. Aaron is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership.
Mr. Schaffer grounds his leadership in a trauma-informed framework that prioritizes stability, dignity, and long-term recovery.

Kevin Kutansky is an entrepreneur and fitness professional with nearly two decades of experience across health, wellness, and hospitality.
Since 2019, he has worked as an Independent Contractor and TPI Representative, delivering specialized expertise and building strong client relationships. In 2014, he co-founded Broomhead Bar, helping grow the brand into a recognized name that expanded onto local grocery store shelves while strengthening his skills in leadership, operations, and brand development.
Previously, Kevin spent over 11 years as a Personal Trainer at Fitness Pointe, coaching clients in performance, strength, and long-term health.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Business Administration from Valparaiso University and later completed pre-dental studies at Purdue University Calumet.
Kevin combines entrepreneurial drive, business leadership, and performance-focused expertise in every endeavor he pursues.

Corinne Carnes is a Technical Graphics Project Manager with more than 11 years of experience in the packaging and prepress industry, supporting large consumer products companies. She works closely with cross‑functional teams to lead brand and packaging initiatives, helping ensure packaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with brand standards from concept through production.
Corinne is valued for her thoughtful approach to problem‑solving and her ability to bring structure and clarity to complex processes. She supports teams through clear communication, attention to detail, and reliable execution, applying a steady, solutions‑oriented mindset shaped by years of hands‑on experience.
She holds a Master of Science in Graphic Communications from Clemson University and a Bachelor of Arts in English (Liberal Arts) from the University of West Florida.
Growing up traveling around the world—and maintaining that passion today—has given Corinne a lasting appreciation for different cultures and perspectives, which continues to shape how she collaborates and communicates..
Cori supports board governance, compliance, and record keeping for SMS, ensuring organizational accountability and operations.

Chief Master Sergeant Raymond Kessner is a senior enlisted Air Force leader whose career reflects the highest levels of enlisted leadership and operational responsibility.
Ray has served across Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operations Command, deploying repeatedly in direct support of combat operations alongside special operations forces. He served as an AC-130 Evaluator Sensor Operator and senior leader responsible for mission execution, readiness, and force development.
At Second Mission Shield, he advises veteran success and reintegration strategy, grounding programs in proven leadership and the realities of life after decades of service.

Ian Cobia is a U.S. Army veteran and cybersecurity professional dedicated to strengthening the resilience and integrity of defense and enterprise systems.
His background in military service and cybersecurity enables him to approach complex challenges with discipline, accountability, and a mission-first mindset.
Ian provides strategic oversight and operational guidance to ensure systems, policies, and long-term planning efforts align with Second Mission Shield’s mission and sustainability goals.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity from the University of West Florida and an Associate of Science in Health Science from Kaplan University, along with multiple industry certifications that support his work in governance and risk management.
Outside of his professional role, Ian is passionate about hiking, traveling, and exploring new cultures through food, interests that reflect his appreciation for discipline, adaptability, and continuous growth.
