Kenny Fellows

Program Coordinator, Outdoor Recovery Initiatives

Kenny Fellows is the Program Coordinator for the Outdoor Recovery Initiatives at SMS. He served in the U.S. Army for ten years as a Cavalry Scout. After leaving the military in 2018, Kenny struggled with the challenges of transition, mental health, and disability.

Seeking a path forward, he spent time reflecting and healing by traveling the country in a self-built camper van. It was during this time that Kenny discovered the restorative qualities of the outdoors. Hiking, cycling, and paddling across America became a constant source of healing that helped him navigate the transition out of uniform.

This experience led him to a career in outdoor recreation, where he worked as a sea kayaking guide in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds certifications through the American Canoeing Association in sea kayaking and trip leadership, as well as wilderness medicine training through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

Kenny's passion for veteran advocacy extends beyond SMS. He also serves in leadership roles with his local Veterans of Foreign Wars post and an Irreverent Warriors chapter. His combination of lived experience, outdoor leadership, and commitment to serving fellow veterans provides the foundation for his role as Program Coordinator for Outdoor Recovery Initiatives.

SMS and the veterans we serve benefit greatly from Kenny's dedication to connecting veterans with the healing power of the great outdoors.
