Veterans do not always need therapy.
They need someone steady.
Someone who understands transition, identity shift, instability, and rebuilding.
Peer Support exists across all three SMS pillars:
• Transition & Reintegration
• Support & Stabilization
• Recovery & Rebuilding
This role provides connection, accountability, and grounded support within a non-clinical, trauma-informed framework.
Peer Support team members:
• Provide one-on-one check-ins
• Offer structured accountability conversations
• Help veterans navigate systems and next steps
• Reinforce stability habits and regulation skills
• Maintain boundaries and refer up when needed
This is not therapy.
This is not crisis response.
This is not sponsorship.
It is structured, trained peer presence.
You may qualify if you are:
• A verified veteran (proof of service required)
• In sustained stability and able to model consistency
• Willing to complete required SMS training
• Comfortable operating within clear boundaries
• Able to pass a standard background check
If you are not a veteran, you must hold appropriate certification or credentialing relevant to peer or support roles.
Every SMS peer support and mentorship role operates under defined screening, training, and accountability standards.
• Background checks conducted
• Virtual interview process
• Clear conduct standards
We protect our veterans and their families.
All Peer Support team members complete:
• Psychological First Aid certification (7 hours, Johns Hopkins University, provided by SMS)

We train our people on our dime because this work matters.
• Minimum time commitment defined during onboarding
• Professional conduct

• Willingness to refer when appropriate
Peer Support is service. Not ego. Not improvisation.
